Kamran's Classes

Biography

Kamran is a professional male bellydancer, performer, and instructor whose artistic identity is rooted in folk dance, the foundational discipline from which all of his subsequent movement explorations have expanded.

Raised in a family of creatives and performers, he was immersed from an early age in music, theater, and storytelling, and those early influences continue to shape the way he moves, teaches, and creates.

He is also a costume maker, crafting the majority of his own performance wardrobe and bringing a distinctive, handcrafted visual identity to the stage. His artistic development has been guided by extensive self-directed research into dance history, cultural contexts, and technique, allowing him to build a nuanced and informed approach to performance and instruction.

His teaching emphasizes strong foundational technique, musicality, cultural awareness, and personal expression, welcoming students of all levels, backgrounds, and identities.

Kamran is grateful to Shimmy on the Colorado for the opportunity to be featured at such a high-caliber event and to share his work alongside an inspiring community of artists

Baba Karam

Step into the bold world of Baba Karam, a dynamic Persian dance born in the clubs of Tehran as women’s playful parody of the swaggering men—especially the “jahel” or tough-guy figures—around them.

Traditionally, female dancers donned urban men’s attire to exaggerate masculine bravado and transform social critique into art.

This workshop offers a unique twist as a male performer reclaims and embodies the iconic “jahel” persona, exploring expressive gestures, comedic swagger, and the surprising interplay of parody, identity, and tradition in Persian dance.
