Kata Maya's Classes
Biography
Kata Maya is a Professional Dance Instructor currently based out of Aalim Dance Academy in Oklahoma City, OK. There, she teaches Raqs Sharqi and Theatrical Fusion. She is also an international performer touring with Bellydance Evolution on occasion.
Her dance knowledge and style have earned her titles such as Bellydancer of the Universe, Universal Champion of Champions, Bellydancer of the Year, Bellydance Master, and Cabaret Professional Star in multiple competitions.
She began her dance study at the young age of five through the Isis Star Dancer Studio in Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX. By 25, Kata Maya was performing across the country. By 27, she filmed her first DVD with Candlelight Productions.
Kata Maya was even invited as a Guest Instructor at Alamo Colleges in San Antonio, TX for a semester to train Dance Majors in Raqs Sharqi and offer them cultural insight.
Her passion for dance comes from the idea and hope of how dance can bring people from all walks of life together, and offers an opportunity to celebrate the life and culture from which this dance originates. Kata Maya is known for her powerful performances and energetic classes.
How to make the most of your Drum Solo
This workshop allows dancers to explore more depth within the drum solo. Kata Maya will cover
basic rhythms used in most drum solos. Each rhythm will be taught at 3 different levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) to make sure each dancer is challenged to their level.

Raqs Sharqi Drills
This workshop focuses on the different feelings and appearance of muscular versus skeletal
movements. Basic moves are executed in both muscular and skeletal drills to reinforce technique.
​
Combos are taught afterwards, including both muscular and skeletal movements to demonstrate how they can work together.
