A-Sword-ed Shapes for Floor and Chair
In this all levels workshop, Rynice will guide participants in exploring some of her innovative sword moves she uses for floorwork and with a chair. The class will start with a thorough warmup and some general sword balance practice (especially on the feet). We’ll then dive into some shapes and transitions for both floor and chair, test out our sword balances with those elements, and finally combine everything into short dance phrases.
This workshop is open to all levels of dancers and abilities. Variations and modifications will be available to accommodate different mobilities and skill sets. Participants are encouraged to bring as many swords as they’d like to play with, as well as a sturdy, metal-framed folding chair if they have one. Knee pads and foot coverings that leave the toes open (such as “foot undies” which cover the ball and the top of the foot and have fabric that goes between the first and second toes) are also highly recommended.
